REEL participate to the development of the LCA60T project, codename for the development of a helium inflated rigid airship powered by seven electric motors, which will be able to remain hovering for handling heavy loads This project is monitored by the company Flying Whales and supported by the BPI among others by 25 million euros.
REEL will provide the 12 winches that will equip the airship and will lift or drop 60 tons of cargo in hard to reach areas. This airborne system as the entire airship has no existing equivalent. It will have to meet the criteria of safety and lightness of any aeronautical equipment and will require the use of new materials for lifting applications.
Two application markets can already be identified: the transportation of timber (the Office National des Forêts being involved in this project) and that of exceptional loads: high voltage pylons, wind turbine blades
